Mayhem and Melody: Our Favourites from Terminus Festival in Calgary, AB

Calgary’s annual gathering of the post-punk, industrial, and synth-obsessed faithful, Terminus Festival, once again delivered a weekend brimming with neon-lit energy and unforgettable performances. From cinematic stagecraft to emotionally charged vocal deliveries, this year’s lineup felt like a love letter to the past, present, and future of underground electronic music. Below, we’re spotlighting a few standout sets that had us dancing, dreaming, and texting our friends in all caps that they should be firmly planted at Dickens so they don’t miss out. Whether you're reminiscing or discovering something new, these are the artists who defined our Terminus experience.

Geneva Jacuzzi

A jaw-dropping finale on the last night of Terminus, Geneva Jacuzzi had one of the most electric and exciting sets of my recent memory. Armed with two dancers, incredible set design, a plethora of props, and multiple costume changes, Geneva Jacuzzi brought a riveting and immersive performance art-pop experience to Dickens. — Kenn Enns

Sleek Teeth

The LA-based duo of emerged from the underground with a synth-pop project that fuses Depeche Mode cool with Lost Boys aesthetics. Their performance of “Endless” was a standout—anchored by a synth hook that instantly demanded attention. “Operating” also impressed, showcasing their ability to deliver flawless vocals over thunderous electronic drums. If you're looking for new music or want to relive the Terminus energy, catch them at Substance Festival in LA this fall. Jess Arcand

The Foreign Resort

Terminus shone a spotlight on some of Artoffact Records’ finest, and Denmark’s The Foreign Resort were a prime example. They delivered fan favourites like “She Is Lost” and reached a heart-stopping crescendo with “Flushed”—a track that evokes the emotional depth of The Cure’s Disintegration (one of my all-time favourite albums). This is a band that must be seen live—don’t sleep on them if they tour near you. Jess Arcand

Matte Blvck

As soon as the neon green lights began to pulse, we were immersed in a Matrix-esque journey through rave and industrial soundscapes. Matte Blvck’s set was a visceral late-night highlight, especially when they launched into “Pure.” With smooth vocals and hypnotic beats, the energy in the room was unmatched as the lead singer convulsed with every note. Madeline Goldstein

A dark femme pop icon in the making, Madeline Goldstein captivated the crowd with her silhouetted choreography. Though we first caught her solo at Purple City last year, this time she brought an added band member—enhancing the set with even more precision and choral ethereality. From the arpeggiated synths of “Seed of Doubt” to her newest track “Apogee,” we’re eagerly awaiting what comes next. Jess Arcand
