Premiere: Baby Berserk soundtracks an internal meltdown on “Mind Explodes”

If overstimulation had a dancefloor soundtrack, Baby Berserk would be making it. The Amsterdam trio have carved out a lane all their own with a thrilling collision of electroclash attitude, synth-pop sheen, and wiry post-punk urgency. With music built for underground clubs and internal meltdowns, their latest single, “Mind Explodes,” captures exactly that feeling: the exhilarating, disorienting rush of thoughts moving faster than your body can keep up. Premiering today with a new music video, the track marks the first taste of Baby Berserk’s next chapter, with a new album set for early 2027. We caught up with the group at Focus Wales in Wrexham, UK ahead of their performance at Rockin’ Chair.

REVERIE: For readers discovering Baby Berserk for the first time, what is your origin story? How did the band start?

We’ve known each other since we were 14. The music scene in Amsterdam is pretty small, and we all started playing in bands as teenagers, so that’s how we first met. Baby Berserk only came together years later, but we’d already been musically connected from a very young age. There was always this shared energy and understanding between us, so forming the band felt really natural when the time was right.

REVERIE: “Mind Explodes” is the first glimpse of your next album, can you talk a bit about the making of the video?

For the video, we wanted to capture the same irrational, chaotic, high-intensity energy we bring to our live shows. To make it feel even more over-the-top, we filmed everything at double speed, we sped up the track and performed playback that way. Honestly, it was hilarious trying to keep up with an already high-energy song at twice the pace. But it gave the video this frantic, in-your-face feeling that really matches our performances on stage.

What inspired the song? Baby Berserk feels like a project that thrives on mood, aesthetics, and attitude as much as sound. What artists, scenes, or cultural touchstones creatively motivate you?

We’re inspired by anything expressive, bold, and unapologetically in-your-face. Artists and icons like Divine, Leigh Bowery, and Johnny Rotten really speak to us because they all pushed individuality and performance to the extreme.

We’re also heavily inspired by creative scenes from the ’60s and ’90s. A huge example is Andy Warhol’s Factory, this idea of bringing together all kinds of artists and personalities to create a world with its own aesthetic and energy. It wasn’t just about the art itself, but about creating an atmosphere where people felt free to experiment, go wild, and fully express themselves.

The same goes for the Haçienda scene in Manchester. Those kinds of cultural movements, where music, fashion, nightlife, and art all collide, really inspire the spirit of Baby Berserk. We love scenes that feel larger than life and create a sense of total immersion.

REVERIE: With a new album on the horizon for early 2027, does “Mind Explodes” feel representative of what’s to come? Was there anything you wanted to explore differently in this next chapter compared to your previous releases?

Yeah, definitely. “Mind Explodes” really gives a first taste of where we’re heading. For this record, we wanted the music to feel more live and energetic, while still keeping that electronic edge that makes it unmistakably Baby Berserk.

There are definitely hints of the new direction in the track already, more sampled drum kits, more guitars, and an overall heavier, more explosive energy.

REVERIE: You played Focus Wales (we were also there!), what do you love about festivals like this? Any plans to play in Canada?

It’s incredible being able to experience so many different countries and cultures through music. We’re always really grateful to be invited to international showcase festivals because they expose us to new sounds, new artists, and totally different creative perspectives. It really expands our vision.

And yes, we’re planning to come to Montreal next year. We can’t say too much yet, but there are definitely some Canadian plans on the horizon.

REVERIE: What do you hope listeners feel the first time they press play on “Mind Explodes”?

Energy, energy, energy. We want people to start moving immediately, bang your head, jump around, lose yourself in it. Don’t hold back. Express yourself and be completely yourself.
