Song Of The Day: Cursed by Sunglaciers

Calgary’s well-kept post-punk secret, Sunglaciers’ announce their new album, Regular Nature set to release on March 29th. The quartet debuts with “Cursed” an otherworldly and psychedelic single that leads listeners into an incredible state of deep contemplation of decisions, and coping with the unknown.

Now, as a long-time Sunglaciers fan, this track is utterly brilliant. A somber-like feeling within the single influenced me to lie in my bed, stare at the ceiling, and “wonder what I could’ve done better.” This is the track I’d enjoy hearing in a TV show drama after the protagonist ponders a decision that results in a loss.

This composition delves into the complexities of the human emotion. An internal battle of appearance versus reality remains a common theme within the track. The unraveling spiderweb of regret that later on translates into the silkiness of acceptance. It captures the discourse between “Is it better to speak or to shut up?” and the idea of whether reconciliation is possible if the door is already closed. The achievement of finding consolation in the discourse of “what-ifs.”

Navigating our thoughts through the fogginess of our minds, “Cursed” instills the idea that even in a chaos-filled world, there is always a break in the clouds.

The music video for “Cursed” was directed by Sunglaciers’ frontman, Evan Resnik.
