Sled Island Second Wave Lineup: REVERIE’s Top Picks

REVERIE’s been eagerly anticipating the next wave of Sled Island’s lineup since their initial reveal back in February. The new additions to the Calgary based festival did not disappoint, including breakthrough Canadian indie rock sensation EKKSTACY, trailblazing Argentine singer-songwriter Juana Molina, experimental guitarist and composer Jeff Parker (a longtime member of the post-rock group Tortoise), outlandish hyperpop performance artist Alice Longyu Gao, Francophone post-punk quartet Corridor, and LA goth rock outfit Death Valley Girls.

There’s also buzz around the guest curator selections, led by NYC hardcore outfit Show Me The Body, for the 2024 addition. Read on to hear a few more of REVERIE’s must-see acts that we will be hopping to and from during the week of June 19th to the 23rd.

Festival passes and single-show tickets are available via Sled Island's official website.

The Sediment Club

In Sled Island’s second wave lineup announcement, there was a slew of interesting choices from the 2024 guest curator Show Me The Body. One of the bands that stood out on the list for us was The Sediment Club, due to their longevity as a band, having been around for a decade, in addition to their squeaky and squawky sound (we mean that in the best way possible). Stemming from the NYC punk rock scene, their unhinged sound will bring the spirit of '80s no wave to the festival that is much needed.

Alice Longyu Gao

Bringing an electrifying edge to the Sled Island lineup, Alice Longyu Gao’s experimental and bold production has her changing the Hyperpop world. Maybe we’ll see folks dressed up in kawaii aesthetics at her show with their “Rich Bitch Juice” in tow? We sure hope so. Check out our latest show review of Alice Longyu Gao here to read more.

Obroa-Skai

Marking their return to sled, Edmonton hardcore outfit Obroa-Skai will draw a friendly moshing crowd with their politically charged music. After the release of their newest album near the end of 2023, we’re looking forward to hearing them bring their noisy riffs and screaming hooks to a Sled venue near you. Read our latest review of their album release show at Modern Love here for more.

Knitting

Described as “guitar music for people who like guitar music”, Montreal’s Knitting makes lo-fi bedroom pop with quirky 90’s alt/rock threads to keep any audience entertained. They were first put on our radar after a live performance at CJSW 90.9 FM Studios back in 2022 and we are excited to see their evolution as a group at this year’s festival! Check out their 2022 performance via CJSW’s channel here to get a taste.

EKKSTACY

Reigning from Vancouver, BC, EKKSTACY is an incredibly talented Indie Rock artist. You may recognize his music from your Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify, but this is an artist who’s live performance holds up just as well to the recordings.

Myst Milano.

One of our favourite finds from the viral Club Quarantine movement was Toronto’s Myst Milano. From electronic, to ballroom, to rap - Myst brings the heat to every dance floor. As a rapper, DJ, and producer Myst Milano not only is a prolific member of the scene, but also plays a meaningful role in her own community to amplify artists who are contributing to the Canadian music landscape in the best way possible.
