Meagre Martin Crafts a Nostalgic Anthem on “Malcolm”

It’s not every day we get a track that references one of our favourite throwback tv shows - Malcolm in the Middle - while exemplifying indie rock mastery at the same time. This earworm of a track is brought to us by none other than Berlin-based songwriter-turned-trio Meagre Martin and showcases an emotive experience that reflects on the inequity in America.

Meagre Martin shares, “We grew up watching Malcolm in the Middle; something about it has always felt like home. The financial instability the parents face feels very familiar, yet the vibrancy they portray resonates. Malcolm’s struggle to climb out of generational trauma and poverty is relatable. This song embraces a different vibe than our previous releases, delivering a more powerful, guitar-driven sound that echoes the spirit of rebellion and resilience in the lyrics."

The track follows their latest debut album, Gut Punch, where Meagre Martin opens their world of Lo-Fi and Americana, indie tunes and relevant, timely, and deeply felt songs to listeners from all over the world. However, this single presents an exciting direction for the band, leaning more heavily into a guitar-focused sound alongside songwriter Sarah Martin’s captivatingly woozy vocal style.

The band will be showcasing at SXSW and joining Chastity Belt on tour this year, so mark your calendars and check out one of the dates below.
