Lawnya Vawnya Announces a list of treasured bands for their 2026 festival lineup

Newfoundland and Labrador's beloved independent arts festival Lawnya Vawnya has unveiled the full schedule for its sixteenth edition, returning to downtown St. John's from June 3–6, 2026 with four days of music, literature, film, workshops, and community programming.

Since its founding, Lawnya Vawnya has built a reputation for championing adventurous independent artists from across Canada while spotlighting the creative communities of Newfoundland and Labrador. This year's lineup continues that tradition, bringing together punk, hip-hop, electronic music, indie rock, jazz, experimental sounds, and multidisciplinary art programming across venues throughout the city.

The festival opens June 3 with a literary event featuring acclaimed author Maria Reva, whose novel Endling was longlisted for the 2025 Booker Prize and won the Atwood Gibson Writers' Trust Fiction Prize. Presented in partnership with Riddle Fence, the reading will be accompanied by the Ukrainian speed-folk sounds of Kubasonics. Later that evening, Fairweather, Sick Puppy, and Shunk bring a dose of punk energy to kick off the festival's musical programming.

Thursday's schedule blends fashion, performance, and music with a wearable art workshop led by Jem Woolidge before moving into performances from Zaynab Wilson and JayWood. The night continues with guitar-driven sets from Cable TV, Calgary garage-punk duo Miesha and the Spanks, and G̱a̱mksimoon.

Festival staples return on Friday, including the Downtown Music Crawl and the Merch and Print Fair at Eastern Edge Studios. The day's programming also includes a Press for Independent Artists panel, an artist talk with Iraqi-Canadian rapper, writer, and activist Narcy, and JAMZONE, an interactive rock-school-meets-jam-session hosted by Miesha and the Spanks. Friday night's performances span indie rock, alternative country, heavy music, hip-hop, and electronic sounds, with appearances from Fiver with the Fiver Trois, Kelly McMichael, UZU أوزو, Narcy, AEXEL, QUIN, and more.

Saturday closes the festival with a packed day of family-friendly programming, artist discussions, film screenings, and music. New this year is LV Little, a morning concert experience designed for children under four and their families. Elsewhere, attendees can catch panel discussions on streaming platforms and life in coastal communities, as well as a screening of Lilith Fair: Building A Mystery directed by Ally Pankiw.

The festival's final evening offers one of its most diverse musical lineups yet. Punk fans can catch Mantracker, Dear Evangeline, Invisible Hand, and LICE, while indie rock audiences can look forward to performances from Chumpp, fanclubwallet, and Kiwi Jr. Experimental electronic programming arrives courtesy of Feminotica, HRT, and Toronto industrial-synth outfit SLASH NEED before the festival closes with dancefloor-focused sets from Corey Clocksey, CPR, and Montréal DJ and producer Èbony.

With a schedule that moves seamlessly between literary arts, community workshops, emerging artists, and nationally celebrated acts, Lawnya Vawnya continues to be one of Canada's most distinctive independent arts festivals.
