Q&A: It’s Written in the Stars for Vancouver’s La Lune

Vancouver based indie/rockers La Lune are new on the scene, blending shoegaze with nostalgic emo sensibilities. We first discovered the band after stumbling across their high-energy live performance video at Green Auto. The video is drenched in their signature greyscale aesthetic, taking us back to the found footage era of the 90’s when live concerts were filmed on a DV cam. With two singles floating around, La Lune are in a place where their dreamy sound will keep you anticipating their every move, with more music on the horizon.

Read our Q&A with the band below to hear why they are one of REVERIE’s current favourite bands of 2024.

REVERIE: Can you give us a brief history of the band?

La Lune: We all met through various mutual Vancouver music friends. We realized that we all shared a love for 90's guitar music and wanted to play in a band like that, really badly. We started to jam as the four of us in late 2022, wrote some songs, put together a set and played our first show in January of 2023. Since then we've played nearly 30 shows!

REVERIE: You released your debut single back in December 2023, “Disparity”, - can you tell us a bit about the track?

La Lune: "disparity" was the first original song that we put together as a band. What started as a very primitive demo that Ethan put together in logic, really flowered into something special when Ben shared some lyrics he wrote for the song while riding the bus. The song developed more and more as we played it live, and is still a high-point in our set today.

REVERIE: And now with its follow up “Little Life” is this a sign of more to come?

La Lune: We'll be putting out our 3rd single, "despondent" in late March!

REVERIE: What would you say the band’s biggest inspiration is?

La Lune: Neil Young.

REVERIE: What else can we expect from the band in the coming year? Any upcoming live dates or tour plans?

La Lune: Our Debut EP is to be released through Kingfisher Bluez in the Spring. Lots of shows! Here, in Vancouver, as well as NXNE in Toronto.

REVERIE: Speaking of playing live…what is your favourite venue to play in Vancouver?

La Lune: Our favourite venue to play is easily Green Auto. Mike and his team are the best!

REVERIE: If you could play with any bands, who would they be?

La Lune: Neil Young, DIIV, Slow Pulp, TAGABOW, julie, beabadoobee, Goon, Built to Spill to name a few.
